Day Zero - What to bring

First things first, don't forget all your paper work. You can forgot you favorite pajama or towel but not your documents. It should be ready and in one folder or envelope. So have them handy and easily accessible so you won't have any delays at the immigration boot in the Airport.
DOCUMENTS





1. Passport.
2. Student Visa Letter.
3. Letter offer.
4. Overseas student confirmation of enrollment.
5. Receipt of tuition fees/payment.
6. Certified copies of academic qualification.
7. International English Language Test System (IELTS - English Proficiency).
8. 145 Page Detailed Course outline .
9. Evidence of Fund/Bank Statement.
10. Identification Card.
11. English Translation of Vaccination Records







Write this on a piece of paper.
  • Telephone # of International Student Support Team and University Security Office.

  • Instruction on how to get from Sydney Airport to Newcastle. Check google maps.
  • Telephone # of Transport/Accommodation.
  • Accommodation Address and Rental or Character References.

2. Money 
 Make sure you have enough funds to support you when first arrive in Australia.
  • You can bring cash - ($500 Aud cash and $1000 Aud Travelers Check)
  • Plenty of ATM machine to withdraw money at the airport and throughout the major cities. Remember that your bank card you can access internationally like Visa, Mastercard, etc. 






3. Cloths 
Check what climate of your chosen campus will be like. Newcastle is a place where they have winter, summer, spring and autumm. Make sure you have:
  • 3 Pajamas
  • 3 Jumper (Jacket) 
  • 1 Coats
  • 5 Singlet (Sando)
  • Undergarments
  • 3 Shorts
  • etc (List will be updated soon).
Of course, you will be able to find clothing at Charlestown SquareWestfield & Kotara Homemakers (one of the biggest shopping center in Newcastle).

I also brought some Philippine product like:
  • Shampoo
  • Lip gloss and make up. 
  • Soap
  • 2 Bottle of Tanduay Alcohol

4. Overseas Health Cover.
You need to have this done before you arrived and IDP will help you out on how to apply. I only got my OSHC card when i arrived in the Australia and when my semester is starting. This is one of the requirement in UoN. I used this when i had to continue the remaining vaccination i need to complete my placement. I don't have to pay for any doctors fee and probably lower down the expenses if i get ill.

5. Arrival and Homestay. 
Upon arrival I got pick up by friends from Sydney Airport to  Newcastle. I stay at a Homestay which I organised on my own. UoN have their own Campus Houses and homestay which they can organised with you. You can also look for your own place to stay online before you arrived but you have to make sure its a legitimate place. Seek assistance from your University or check online as I don't have much problem when upon my arrival and a place to stay.


6. Bridging Course.
There are bridging course available for Local and International Student.
  • Writing Academic Essay 
  • Academic Survival Skills





7. Orientation.


Remember: 
  • Your Airline Luggage Allowance (25 kg at Philippine Airlines).
  • All kind of Food, Animal Products or probably any living things are not allowed except yourself when you check in.
